FAQs

What is the submission process?

  • First, choose no more than 10 pieces of your work (make sure they are pieces that best represent who you are as an artist).
  • Next, go to the "Sub. Form" section of this website and get the mandatory submission form to fill out
  • Literary submissions should be sent as Microsoft Word attachments
  • Artwork submissions should be high-res attachments (JPEG is preferable)
  • E-mail everything to phosphorescencemagsubmissions(AT)gmail(DOT)com

When your submission is reviewed, an e-mail will be sent to you with more information.

Will you take a look at my website first before I submit?

We would love to! However, there are simply not enough hours in the day to accommodate all of the requests we get to do this. We would prefer you just go ahead and submit your work! This isn't to say, though, that we won't stop by your website at some point too!

How often is the magazine released?

It all depends on the variety of submissions we get. We like to have a good mixture before we decide to release a particular issue. That being said, we release new issues at least twice a year.

Will I get paid for being in the magazine?

While there is no monetary compensation, there are the following (each one exclusive to their category) incentives:

ARTISTS: A free complimentary professional print copy will be mailed via U.S. First Class mail (we'll contact artists for their address shortly before the magazine is going to be released).

MUSICIANS/FILMMAKERS: A professional, detailed review that can be used in any/all promotional materials.

What are my chances of getting in an issue of the magazine?

We try to accept everyone who sends their work in.

What kinds of artwork do you accept?

Paintings, multimedia work, writing, photography...you name it! If you are a musician or a filmmaker, you can submit your work to be reviewed. Please note that music and films mailed to us for review will NOT be returned.

What kinds of artwork will you NOT accept?

Although we have become more tolerant on the nudity aspect, please do not submit pornographic work. Also, we don't accept work that makes fun of religions and/or cultures.

I submitted my work for consideration/review and I haven't heard anything! Why?

When it comes to artwork submissions, certain times of the year are quite busy for us (like the holiday season). Thus, during times like this, it will take longer for a response. The same goes for reviews. The maximum amount of time you might have to wait is 3 months. All of us have other jobs and responsibilities in addition to the magazine, so we certainly appreciate your patience!

How widely is the magazine distributed?

We use the internet as our main distribution service. We get many downloads and page views. Also, the fact that artists from around the world have shown an interest in the magazine shows its far-reaching effect.

I've already been in the magazine, but want to submit again. Can I?

You sure can! We have already had some artists do so!

I would like to have my film/music reviewed. What formats do you accept?

For films, we prefer DVD or VHS, but we'll also look at YouTube movies. For music, in most cases (excluding those who only have their music available online) we will only accept CDs.

Please note: Reviewed films and movies mailed to us will NOT be returned.
